New personal work, LA meets South East London....
Before I became a photographer I had a previous life in fashion design, I worked as a casual-wear designer for over a decade before making the leap to advertising photography.
The two careers feed into each other more than I ever thought they would. A common thread through my photography work is a love of colour, and my imagery is often described as 'clean', which I take as a compliment. I've never been keen on unnecessary extras, whether it's on clothing or within the frame of a shot.
When I worked in fashion my favourite inspiration trip was LA, I loved the golden toned light you get there and the distinctive youth culture.
So for this shoot I wanted to bring a little of that City of Angels light and energy to South East London - we were blessed with some unbelievable weather (by British standards!) and the addition of some Profoto B10's gave everything a boost.
The casting on this project was the key to the success of the whole shoot, massive thanks to Real London Casting for looping me in with their amazing roster - we were able to cast talent who are actors and dancers alongside their modelling work, and this helped bring genuine authenticity to the shoot.
